Ministry of Diaspora International Conference “Motherland Diaspora – World’s Experience”

Serbia and diaspora • Serbia falls into a category of states which, in comparison to their population, have a large diaspora. Our country, currently in political transition, has not been able to maintain the most exemplary relations with its diaspora. Conversely, some states have been able to organize their diasporic relations to an enviable level whereby they have created efficient, effective and entirely original models of diasporic interaction.

International conference • The Ministry of Diaspora proposes the organization of an international conference under the name of, “Motherland Diaspora – World’s Experience” which would bring together respected officials from around the world, as well as representatives from various organizations, to share in their common diasporic interests.

International conference Organization: • This conference would be organized by the Ministry of Diaspora in co-operation with foreign embassies in Serbia, academic-research institutions, and the community.

International conference • The purpose of this congress would be for members to share their various models of partnership, between the motherland and diaspora, and to help develop, and profile, the “world model of best practice” The creation and study of this model would be of great help to Serbia, which is currently engaged in the exploration of the potential of partnership between itself and its diaspora.

International conference • It would also be a good opportunity for Serbia’s Ministry of Diaspora to introduce itself, its purposes and its goals, to both the international community, as well as the Serbian diaspora itself. Aside from the positive effects that this congress would have towards the betterment within the field of academic research, such as the creation of a “diasporic information database”, it would also introduce a forum through which states and their diasporas could engage in dialogue regarding financial co-operation.

The financial backing require Coverage for the costs of the following: • the organizational costs, • the costs of renting the space and equipment necessary for such congress, • multi-lingual translation services, • travel expenses, • food and beverage expenses and • media expenses.
