Meet the Team Delaine Black Welcome! My name is Delaine Black. I graduated from Lexington High School, and then went on to earn my bachelors degree from Columbia College. I have been teaching at Mill Creek since 2000! Akeba Dixon-Sterling My name is Akeba Dixon. Sterling. I am from the beautiful island of Jamaica where I am a proud graduate of the International University of the Caribbean where I received my Bachelor of Education in Primary Education. I look forward to working with you this year! Divene Vassell Hello, my name is Divene Vassell. I am from the beautiful country of Jamaica. I have two girls that are 11 and 15. I acquired my Bachelor of Art degree in PrimaryElementary Education at Northern University in Jamaica. One of my philosophies in education is, “ Labor for learning before you get old; for learning is better than silver and gold. Silver and gold will vanish away but a good education will never decay.

School Supplies Wooden #2 pencils (2 -4 dozen, no mechanical pencils)* Glue sticks Colored pencils (set of 8 at least) Earbuds (need for computers-please do not send expensive ones) 3”x 3” Post-It notes (at least 1 pack) *Some items are to replenish items that run out or are lost from the AVID materials the students receive at the beginning of the year. No pencil boxes are needed. There will be a pencil pouch in the AVID binder.

Distance Learning Expectations • Find a quiet place free from distractions (siblings, pets, stereo, television, parents, etc. ) • Provide comfortable seating and desk area to ensure your ability to concentrate. • Make sure you have eaten breakfast before class begins for the day. • Log on a few minutes early. • Video needs to remain on to maintain focus • Please use the bathroom before instruction begin • Maintain RESPECT in both speaking, writing, and appearance (dress appropriately) • Stay on mute and click the raise hand button or use chat box when you have something to say. • Speak clearly and on topic. • Avoid chewing gum, eating, or drinking in front of the camera. • Students should work independently. Parents should not assist a student with work unless teacher has asked for participation.

The teachers will assign the usernames and passwords to the students. There is a number on the student page that will allow the parents to join and get their own username and password. Quizizz www. quizizz. com Quizizz is an online quiz site where teachers give students questions (with or without pictures) to answer on a given subject. Through the use of memes, students receive instant feedback as to whether or not they correctly answered a question. Students can also review the questions and answers when they have finished the quiz. Students do not need a Quizizz account to do this.
