Tips for the Speaking Test • Be on time! • Don’t waste time. • Say as much as you can – remember the Rule of 5 • Speak English only • Use the grammar and vocabulary we discussed in class • Practice and prepare for every question • Be ready for follow-up questions
Unit 1 – First Impressions 1. Are first impressions accurate? Give examples to explain. 2. How important do you think first impressions are? Why? 3. What are some ways a person can give a good impression? What are some ways a person can give a bad impression? 4. Have you ever formed a first impression of someone that was wrong?
Unit 2 – Food and Nutrition 1. What’s more important, taste or nutrition? Why? 2. How important is food in your life? Why? 3. Do you agree that if something tastes great, it’s probably bad for you? Why? 4. Do you have a balanced diet?
Unit 3 - Change 1. Is change good or bad? 2. What has been the biggest change in your life recently? How did it affect you? 3. Is there anything in your life right now that you’d like to change? 4. How did your life change as a result of starting university? 5. What are the challenges in changing to a completely different kind of job? 6. What are the potential benefits in changing to a completely different kind of job?
Unit 4 - Advertising 1. Do you think that advertising makes you more likely to buy a product because it is more familiar to you? Explain your answer with examples. 2. Tell me about a time you bought something because you saw it in an advertisement. 3. Which companies do you trust most, and why? 4. Describe an advertisement you’ve seen recently. What techniques did it use to try to persuade you to buy the product? How effective was the ad?
