Student wellbeing as a priority All students from Years 5 to 8 have a Core teacher who knows students well and looks after their wellbeing. Students are personally known by all teachers who really care about their welfare and development. 6

Student wellbeing and pastoral care Acknowledging that adolescent learners have specific needs, our Middle

Student wellbeing and pastoral care Acknowledging that adolescent learners have specific needs, our Middle School has a structure that allows us to implement a quality student wellbeing program in a meaningful context. In Year 5 and 6, the classroom teacher will have the primary responsibility for the pastoral care and wellbeing of the students in their class. In Year 7 and 8, the Core teacher will have the primary responsibility for the pastoral care and wellbeing of the students in their class. These teachers will be guided by the Stage 3 Co-ordinator and Year 7 and 8 Coordinators. The class and core teachers will explicitly teach resilience skills through programs such as Bounce Back in Year 5 and 6 and Achieve – “You can do it” in Year 7 and 8. 7

Positive Psychology Here in the Middle School we have a specific focus on Positive Psychology, the scientific study of human flourishing, and an applied approach to optimal functioning. It is the study of strengths and values that enable individuals, communities and organisations to thrive. It does not seek to deny the importance of how things go wrong, but rather to emphasise the importance of using the scientific method to determine how things go right. 8

Leadership structure We provide unique opportunities for Year 8 students to hold leadership roles.

Leadership structure We provide unique opportunities for Year 8 students to hold leadership roles. Each year there are 10 Year 8 students elected by their peers and teachers to represent the All Saints Campus student body. These students form the Year 8 Student Leadership Team and are an integral part of helping give direction to the future of our College. 9

Co-curricular An extensive range of sporting, performing arts, music, dance and personal enrichment programs

Co-curricular An extensive range of sporting, performing arts, music, dance and personal enrichment programs are available. Our weekly school-based Active Afternoons provide students with a range of options including: mountain biking, orienteering, table tennis, badminton, dance, martial arts, strength and conditioning, as well as training sessions for our more traditional sports of rugby, football, netball, hockey, touch football, tennis, cricket and basketball where we participate in weekend competitions. 10

Co-curricular Students at the College also have an opportunity to join a swimming squad, learn how to highland dance or play pipes and drums. Many of our students enjoy participating in lunch time sports competitions, most notably water polo during the summer, and touch football during the spring. The Middle School students participate in the traditional school carnivals of swimming, cross country and athletics where they represent their allocated House group. The opportunity to represent the College at higher levels of competition through the NSWCIS pathway also exists. 11

The choir and music ensembles are also very popular with the students. Public speaking, debating, coding and visual arts programs also are on offer to our students at varying stages throughout the year. 12

Collaboration – it takes a village to teach a child We believe that a 3 -way relationship connecting teachers, parents, students working together with proactive communication is the key to educating a child. The core teacher who knows the child best is the first point of contact for parents and there also Year Group Co-ordinators. 13
