Microsoft Azure CASE STUDY Microsoft Azure Removes Security and Backend Infrastructure Concerns for Social Network Firm “We were skeptical about moving to Azure in our early stages of product development. However, making the move to Azure has worked out really well for us. It’s fast, secure, highly available, and easy to set up. ” – Niranjan Sukumaran, Co-founder, Glynk MICROSOFT AZURE ISV: Glynk WEB SITE: www. glynk. com LOCATION: Bangalore, India ORG SIZE: 6 employees MICROSOFT AZURE ISV PROFILE: Glynk is a social discovery and networking platform that enables users to share or get recommendations from like-minded people anywhere or find like-minded people nearby to join them for activities they love to do. Glynk computes similarity scores between any two people in an interest. These scores are the backbone of the platform and the connections that people make. Go-To-Market Services • SITUATION Glynk’s social networking application was hosted on different virtual private servers (VPS) that went down repeatedly due to denial-of-service attacks. The company tried to solve the problem by hosting multiple machines, but without luck. The company needed a secure platform to help it to get back to focusing its energies and efforts on its product and user-facing features, rather than on tedious infrastructure issues and security headaches. • SOLUTION Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines helped Glynk overcome the security flaws that otherwise occur in a VPS. Glynk's system is segregated into multiple layers such as app, database, and tasks. Each logical sub-system requires a different type of machine to optimize speed and availability. Glynk uses DSeries VMs for database operations, giving it very high performance and availability, and G-Series VMs for high-CPU and memory operations. Azure Management Console makes it easy for Glynk to spin up virtual machines and manage their lifecycles. Glynk also depends on Azure App Service. • BENEFITS Microsoft Azure App Service offers Glynk the mobile services it needs to seamlessly integrate with push-based notifications on Android. Azure provides Glynk the tools it needs to integrate different machines for the best output.
