OUTLINE n n n n Motivation- Parking spaces are hard to find Introduction- Issues with parking garages and technical research Problem Statement-How to implement my microcontroller based parking garage Proposed Solution- Steps taken in order to implement my microcontroller based parking garage Results- result of all my hard work Conclusions- significance of results and what I have learned Future Work- future idea of improving my project 2
PARKING PROBLEMS n Hard to find parking spaces 3
MORE PARKING PROBLEMS n Driving all around looking for spaces, but none available 4
STILL MORE PARKING PROBLEMS n Basically, I hate looking for parking spaces 5
MOTIVATION n n Build a parking garage that tells you which spots are available without driving up and down ramps and down aisles for an open parking spot. I also wanted to have my garage to not use ramps instead to use an elevator. 6
INTRODUCTION n n n Security Safety Handicap Accessible 7
TECHNICAL RESEARCH n n Microcontrollers Stepper motors 8
PROBLEM STATEMENTS n n n How to get the elevator to go up and down? How to get the gate to raise and lower? How to get the elevator to go to each floor? How to get the LED’s to light up when a car is parked in a space? How to program a microcontroller? What size stepper motor should I use? 9
MY PARKING SOLUTION 10
PROPOSED SOLUTIONS n To get the elevator to go up and down: n n n Attach the elevator string to stepper motor Attach stepper motor to microcontroller board Write program 11
MORE PROPOSED SOLUTIONS n To get elevator to go to each floor: n n Connect button wires to microcontroller board Write program 12
MORE PROPOSED SOLUTIONS n To get the gate to raise and lower: n n n Add keypad to enter correct code Mount gate to stepper motor Connect stepper motor to forward/reverse circuit Connect forward/reverse circuit to microcontroller Write program 13
MORE PROPOSED SOLUTIONS 14
MORE PROPOSED SOLUTIONS n To get LED’s to light up when a car is parked in a space: n n n Mount LED’S to board and mount to building Connect LED’s to circuit board Connect photoresistors to circuit board 15
RESULTS n n n Operating parking garage Functioning automobile space availability display Functioning elevator (when programmed) 16
CONCLUSIONS n n The significance of my results could make it easier for people who are in a hurry, or just for convenience to find a parking space. It also can offer security and safety than other garages have. The prototype of this garage could be used in the business place for companies who with for newer technology, or who want to simplify the search for parking spaces, or offer the security and safety of this garage. 17
LEARNING EXPERIENCES n I have learn many things throughout the Capstone Class: n n How microcontrollers work and how to program them How stepper motors work How not to wait too long into the semester to work on the project How unforeseen circumstances can keep you from finishing your project on time. 18
FUTURE WORK n n n Implement this project for EET 440/Fiber optics Creating a database that will charge drivers when they enter and leave the garage and charge it to an account. This will be done with a card reader and magnetic cards Using conveyor belts and magnets to make it and electronic valet. 19
