Metafind The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Experience A Tale of Two Instances
Opportunity Knocks l l UNL Libraries were asked to partner with the Rural Initiatives Project (UN) Problem – How to help people in rural Nebraska find information on the Web. l Solution – Build a directory of select information that will help enhance the economy and quality of life in rural Nebraska – Use Metafind to build a meta-search tool for locating information.
Why Two Instances? l l We wanted to include licensed and open resources. A mixture of full-text and article databases. Debate ensued… – For the article databases (aren't we giving away the database if we put it in front of the firewall? ) – We contacted a vendor (EBSCO) about putting ASP in front of the firewall. – We contacted other libraries using Metafind. l Cyber-ethics pervails.
