THEORY (Cont. ) O’Malley and Chamot, 1990 Meta-cognitive strategies is involving thinking about the learning process, planning for learning, monitoring the learning task, and evaluating how well one has learned. 6
AIM OF THE RESEARCH • To investigate what meta-cognitive strategies were employed by the subjects of the research. • To see how the strategies help the subject of the research to finish the text production. 7
SUBJECT OF THE RESEARCH • Two students of Advanced Linguistic class at the graduate program of English Education major. • The initial of the two subjects of the research are “D” and “W” 8
SETTINGS • The research was conducted from December 2006 to January 2007 • It is conducted in English Education Department of State University of Malang, in Malang 9
METHODOLOGY • The data of the research was taken from the statement generated by research subjects. • The statements came from the verbal protocols of the subjects’ think-aloud activities and were used as the source of data to infer meta-cognitive strategies they employed when they plan and draft their term papers. 10
FINDINGS “D” Meta-cognitive Strategies “W” Meta-cognitives Strategies • Self monitoring • Self Evaluation • Advanced preparation • Self Monitoring • Self Evaluation • Advanced Preparation • Delayed Production • Avoidance • Delayed Production • Self Management 11
CONCLUSION • The findings show that during the process of pre-writing and drafting, the subjects of research monitor the process by employing meta-cognitive strategies • The Strategies employed help the subjects of research to continue writing a term paper upto the final text production. 12
