Summary Men of Excellence Hazrat Khabbab (ra) was a slave and was bitterly persecuted for accepting Islam. He was shown a great honour during Islamic Khilafat. His back was scarred forever with the burn marks as a result of persecution by Makkans. Hazrat Khabbab (ra) passed away in 37 A. H. at the age of 73 May 1 st 2020
Hazrat Khabbab bin al-Arat (ra) Men of Excellence May 8 th 2020 He belonged to the Sa’d bin Zaid tribe. His father’s name was Arat bin Jandalah. According to some, his title was Abu Abdullah, and other are of the opinion that it was either Abu Muhammad or Abu Yahya In the era of Jahiliyyat [ignorance] Hazrat Khabbab was made a slave. He was the sixth person to accept Islam and was severely persecuted and tortured for openly doing so. Hazrat Khabbab (ra) was a blacksmith and when his master found out that the Holy Prophet (sa) would meet him, burning coals from his own furnace were placed on the back of Hazrat Khabbab (ra).
Men of Excellence May 8 th 2020 Hazrat Khabbab bin al. Arat (ra) was the person, who was reciting the Holy Quran, in the house of Hazrat Umar’s sister. When Hazrat Umar found out that his sister has accepted Islam, he went to her house full of anger. His sister bravely asserted that she was a Muslim and would not renounce Islam. Hazrat Umar (ra) asked to be shown the Holy Quran. His sister asked him to have a wash and then showed him the verses. [Arabic chapter 20 verses 15 -16] Meaning, ‘‘Verily, I am Allah; there is no God beside Me. So serve Me, and observe Prayer for My remembrance. Surely, the Hour is coming; I am going to manifest it, that every soul may be recompensed for its endeavour. ’ This moved Hazrat Umar (ra) and he became convinced of the truthfulness of Islam. He accepted Islam straight away.
Hazrat Khabbab (ra) was bitterly persecuted by Makkans after he accepted Islam. He would be placed in hot burning coals on his back and Makkans would place stones on his chest, so that he could not move. . Men of Excellence May 8 th 2020 Hazrat Khabbab (ra) back was scarred and heavily marked with the burn marks. said that he had Hazrat Khabbab (ra) made immense sacrifice for accepting Islam. He was physically scarred forever. Hazrat Umar (ra) once explained that Hazrat Khabbab (ra) was a freed slave, he was very much honoured by the Holy Prophet (sa) and so deserve the highest respect from me (Hazrat Umar (ra) also.
Men of Excellence May 8 th 2020 Hazrat Khabbab (ra) took part in the battles of Badr, Uhud, Khandaq and all other battles alongside the Holy Prophet (sa). Hazrat Khabbab (ra) passed away in 37 A. H. at the age of 73. Once, whilst passing by his grave, Hazrat Ali (ra) prayed for him especially.
