Membership Grades MEMBERSHIP REFERENCE GUIDE Grade/Type Qualifications Member At the time of admission or advancement, a Member shall have the equivalent of 12 Societyapproved years of experience composed of an approved combination of: (1) completed education beyond high school; (2) work experience*; and (3) professional engineering or related registration or license issued by a legally authorized body. *Qualifying work experience must be in the performance of duties in work related to ASHRAE fields and shall have included research, teaching, design, contracting, engineering sales, or engineering management. Associate An Associate Member shall have had experience in technical matters or in design, operation, or maintenance in HVAC&R fields; shall have an interest in the advancement of the Society's aims, and shall possess sufficient qualifications to cooperate with HVAC&R engineers in the advancement of the knowledge relating to HVAC&R engineering and its application. Membership Grades ADVANCEMENT • Who? – Review your roster – anyone who is an Associate who has been a member for 12 or more years is likely to be eligible – You might know individuals who are Associates, but who have been in the industry for quite some time and have their PE license – they are good members to target • How? – Associates needs only update their member bio online and email membership@ashrae. org indicating an interest in advancement
Membership Grades TRANSFERS & OTHER GRADE CHANGES Students • • Who? – Students who are no longer enrolled as full-time students must advance to Associate – that is a student transfer How? – Students needing to transfer should visit the Student. Zone for details Affiliates • • Who? – The Affiliate program is limited to three years and ages 30 and younger – all Affiliates are eventually transferred to Associate How? – Most Affiliates will transfer automatically at the completion of their three-year tenure – Affiliates wishing to change from Affiliate to Associate before the end of the three years must pay the balance of the Associate membership by contacting membership@ashrae. org
