About her Life ! Emil & Melitta Bentz was born in Dresden. In 1809, she invented the coffee filter. She lived with her three children Herta, Willi, Horst and her husband Emil Hugo together. Emil Hugo was a soldier in the First World War. Melitta and her family survived the war.
The invention ! She led an experiment with blotting paper from her son, with the help of which the coffee set in the finished coffee should be avoided. She made holes in the bottom of a brass pot and fitted it with the blotting paper. This invention was well received by friends, so Melitta Bentz marketed her idea.
The foundation of the company ! On 15 December 1908 the company was registered in the commercial register. Changes in the company : Team of work : The first employees were her husband Emil Hugo and her sons Willi and Horst. 1920 -1924 they bought additional buildings. The company moved from Dresden to Minden in 1929. Today it is continued by the grandsons.
Awards ! In 1911 the company received gold and silver medals at the International Hygienic Exhibition. Two streets were named after her: Dresden: Melitta-Bentz-Straße Minden: Melitta-Straße
