What will we be teaching? What will we be teaching? Maths – Times Tables https: //www. gov. uk/government/news/multiplication-tablescheck-trials-to-begin-in-schools • “The multiplication tables check is designed to help ensure children in primary school know their times tables up to 12 off by heart. As well as being critical for everyday life, knowledge of multiplication tables helps children to solve problems quickly and flexibly, and allows them to tackle more complex mathematics later on in school. ” • There is a national voluntary roll out of the multiplication tables check for all Year 4 pupils from June 2019, before it becomes mandatory in June 2020.
What will we be teaching? Maths – Times Tables • FAST Maths challenge grids – working on accuracy first and then fluency. • Ten minute maths – learning times tables, looking at patterns and making links. • Suggested learning sequence: - Count (forwards and then backward), - Chant (forwards and then backwards), - Random rapid recall in any order.

What will we be teaching? English – Spellings • Spellings will be set and tested weekly. • The tests will be on a Thursday. • Your child will learn 5 -10 spellings each week. • The words are individual to your child and are from the National Curriculum word list (See attached) • Your child needs to understanding and use their spellings in context (sentences) and retain the spellings they have learnt over time.
What will we be teaching? English – Reading • Your children are expected to read to an adult at least twice a week at home. • When you are hearing them read please focus on comprehension rather than just word reading (See attached questions). • We also encourage your child to read for pleasure and in a range of situations. • Remind your child they use their reading skills daily to read; instructions, recipes, questions etc.
PE What will we be teaching? Year 3 - Monday and Thursday Year 4 - Monday and Thursday The PE curriculum includes; dance, gymnastics, swimming, team sports, athletics and theory. Your child will need to have their earings removed (no tape) and will need to take any medication e. g. inhalers (if appropriate). They will need appropriate PE kit including a round necked t-shirt, hat and sun tan lotion and a tracksuit and trainers.

PE - Swimming 4 H – 17. 09. 18 – 10. 12. 18 3 HB – 07. 01. 19 – 25. 03. 19 4 W – 01. 04. 19 – 15. 7. 19 • We will be walking to the pool so please remind your child about road safety and ensure they have suitable clothing for all weathers. • Your child will need to be able to change and dry themselves. • Please send your child in with an extra healthy snack to have after swimming. • You child’s hair will need to be tied up.

Homework • Homework will be set on a Friday and collected the following Wednesday. • Please talk to your child about the task and support in finding the resouces they need to access it. • Your child’s homework should be their own work and be the best of their ability. • In year 3 and 4 homework will be 20 minutes each night. • Homework will follow on from learning in school or it may be prior learning before teaching. • We recommend Homework Club if your child struggles to complete homework at home. • In addition to homework please continue to support your child to develop life skills, such as; telling the time, reading timetables (bus and train), home baking (measuring and weighing) tying shoe laces and ties. them

They are also running a parent session at 7 pm on the same day – we would highly recommend you go to this as the questions they raise and the advice they give are invaluable to keeping your children safe.

General reminders • Water only in water bottles in class. • Pencil cases can be brought to school but it is not essential. We provide what they will need. It must be small enough to fit into their trays and it is their own responsibility. • Children are responsible for watches / fitbits / earings etc that they take off for PE. • Your child needs to hand any notes in their communication book to their teachers – please ensure they know to do this if you have written in it.
How to support your child at home • • • Check and use your child’s communication books – It is your child's responsibility to hand any messages to the teacher. Visit and use the school website. Talk to your child about and support them with their homework, including spellings, times tables and reading (but don’t do it for them!) Work on their individual personalised TLC and report targets with them. Encourage your child to access online learning platforms including; Times tables rockstars, Reading eggs and Phonics play.
