Why did i become a school counselor?
What does the school counselor do? To help kids understand their feelings, talk through their problems, and learn coping skills so they can do their very best at school. Kids usually see the school counselor for a set amount of time to work towards a goal. Kids might be seen in groups, teaching the whole class a lesson, and they may meet individually with the counselor.
My School Counselor helps me with. . . ● When I am hurting or upset ● Making and keeping friends ● (Perspective) Looking at things differently ● Being a good student ● Solving problems ● When I am angry ● Being happy and safe ● Learning new things about myself
Where is the counselor’s office? ? Across from the Library. . .
EXPECTATIONS FOR COUNSELING LESSONS Same as your teacher ● One person talking at a time ● Eyes and ears on the speaker ● Hands to ourselves ● Mindfulness~breathing https: //youtu. be/MVHHi 0 v. TCS 4

Second Step This Social Emotional curriculum is to helping students build skills to help them to grow their emotional intelligence and to help them to problem solve not only with their peers but through hard things that we face everyday in our society. Teachers and the counselor work together to support student needs. As a whole school we focus on the same skills throughout to have a consistent and positive school culture. Parents can be supplied with home links to help reinforce skills at home.
CALMING CORNER A TOOL TO HELP STUDENTS REFOCUS IN THE CLASSROOM NOT A PLACE TO HANG OUT INSTEAD OF DOING YOUR WORK 1. Set a timer 2. Choose a strategy to help you breathe and refocus (fidget, color, breathing exercises, yoga positions or just sitting still for a few minutes) 3. When you feel calm you can rejoin the class
I have this poster in my room as well. Gaining and Keeping trust with students and families is one of my number one goals as a school counselor.
YOU CAN ONLY GO TO THE COUNSELOR WHEN YOU ARE IN TROUBLE THE COUNSELOR IS SCARY/MEAN I CAN ONLY SEE THE COUNSELOR ONE-ON-ONE THE COUNSELOR WILL TELL EVERYONE WHAT I SAY
