Come November: Listening Guide TIME 0: 00 -0: 10 -0: 46 -1: 03 FORM Intro Chorus Stop Instrumental bridge 1: 03 1: 04 -1: 32 Stop Chorus 1: 32 -1: 37 Instrumental bridge Stop Verse 1 The vocals fade out and the dynamics of the instruments increased from soft to loud during this short bridge. Instrumental outro The mandolin and fiddle create a beautiful, up tempo outro with complex layers as the song comes to a close. 1: 37 1: 38 -2: 16 -2: 57 2: 21 2: 57 3: 04 3: 32 -3: 38 3: 39 4: 17 -4: 25 DESCRIPTIONS Mandolin begins with a simple, melodic, repeating solo. Moments later, the fiddle joins with a drone-like sound. Vocals begin singing a harmonic chorus. Momentary stop or pause in the music to create interest and drama. Mandolin and guitar duo play together to increase the pace, increase the dynamic, and intensify the volume. The mouth harp joins the other instruments to add a light and bouncy feeling to the song. Moments later, the fiddle joins to add depth with a drone-like sound and some harmonies with the guitar and mandolin. A short break in sound. The guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and mouth harp continue with their melodic and quick pace to provide a backing for the melodic vocals to sing the chorus. All instruments and vocals were in harmony together during this chorus. The guitar and mandolin provide a noticeable melody for the vocals to harmonize with. The dynamic of this chorus was medium to loud, while the timbre was what you may expect from bluegrass strings, voices, and a metallic mouth harp. The texture was complex with a variety of layers. A short stop in sound to break before beginning the next verse. The first verse began with group vocals and all instruments providing a soft and quick tempo backing. The instrumentals during this portion of the song sound as if they’re skipping quickly. Instrumental The fiddle takes the lead to provide the melody for this instrumental bridge. The timing is quick, and the mandolin provides a complex bridge backing for the fiddle during this bridge. During this portion of the song, there is one quick stop at 2: 21 before the instrumentals continue. Stop Short stop in sound. Instrumental After almost 40 seconds of an instrumental bridge where the fiddle carried the melody with the other instruments playing back up, the bridge change pace changed. At this point, the fiddle beings to drone again, rather than being melodic and harmonic with the backing instrumentals. The mandolin becomes more obvious and plays a tune to introduce the second verse. Verse 2 The group vocals join in with harmony to sing the second verse. During this verse, from 3: 08 -3: 29, you can hear the guitar and mandolin fluttering in the background. Instrumental This instrumental bridge was created by the mandolin and fiddle creating a harmonic melody. bridge Stop A short stop in sound. Verse 3 Group vocals begin singing the third verse with the mandolin, bass, fiddle and guitar providing a soft, quick-paced, harmonic backing.

For You: Listening Guide TIME 0: 00 -0: 22 FORM Instrumental intro DESCRIPTIONS This piece begins with a guitar and mandolin duo. The fiddle joins at 0: 10 with a droning harmony. From 0: 16 through 0: 22 all instruments provide a harmonic melody. 0: 22 -0: 44 Verse 1 0: 44 -1: 12 Chorus 1: 12 -1: 23 Instrumental bridge The instrumentals continue and decrease in volume to provide a soft backing for the female vocal solo to sing the first verse. The vocal solo increases in dynamic from soft to a loud dynamic as she belts out the chorus. During this bridge the mandolin and bass provide a soft harmonic backup for the fiddle to provide the melody while the guitar is strummed somewhat aggressively to produce a dramatic percussion effect. 1: 23 -2: 12 Verse 2 This verse begins with a female vocal solo and harmonies between the mandolin and fiddle. It has a medium pace with a medium dynamic. The tension builds during this verse to maintain interest and intensity. At 1: 33 the fiddle interjects into the vocal melody for variety. From 1: 39 -2: 09 there is a crescendo and a climax in sound from 2: 08 -2: 12 that consists of the lead female vocalist and two back-up vocalists. 2: 12 -2: 46 Instrumental outro with vocal harmony This instrumental outro consisted of the fiddle droning, the guitar and mandolin keeping the quick paced tempo while the guitar was strummed aggressively to produce a percussion effect. Throughout the outro the vocalists cooed a melody as the song closed with the fiddle and mandolin making a final statement.

All Good Things: Listening Guide TIME 0: 00 -0: 10 FORM Instrumental intro DESCRIPTIONS The song begins with a medium tempo, medium dynamic guitar solo with structured timing. After about 5 seconds, the fiddle and mandolin join to produce a harmonic melody. The verse begins with a slow to medium tempo female vocalist. The vocals and fiddle provide the harmonic melody for the verse with the guitar and mandolin providing a harmonic backing. 0: 10 -0: 29 Verse 1 0: 29 0: 30 -0: 51 Stop Verse 2 Quick stop in sound All instrumentals and female vocal solo begins again to play the second verse. During this verse it is noticeable that the guitar is providing a percussion effect by the musician striking the strings. 0: 51 -1: 12 Chorus The vocal solo increases in intensity and the dynamic changes from medium to medium loud. The instrumentals remain relatively level during this transition. At 1: 02 two backup vocals join to provide vocal variety and depth. 1: 12 -1: 22 Instrumental bridge During this instrumental bridge the mandolin carries the melody with the other instruments providing harmonies. 1: 22 -1: 43 Verse 3 The third verse begins with a female vocal solo and the instrumentals return to the fiddle carrying the melody. From 1: 35 -1: 43 another female vocalist joins in to coo a beautiful harmony with the lead vocalist. 1: 43 -2: 03 Chorus The instrumentals continue with a quick tempo and soft dynamic as the vocal solo begins the chorus. The vocals increase in dynamic during this chorus and finish the chorus with a medium to loud dynamic. 2: 03 -2: 10 Instrumental bridge 2: 11 -2: 34 Verse 4 This short instrumental bridge has a harmonic combination of the fiddle and mandolin with the bass providing backup. A female vocalist solo begins this verse with a medium to loud dynamic. From 2: 26 -2: 34 two vocalists join to provide a harmony for the lead female vocals. During this verse you can hear the backing instrumentals providing a soft background. At times the pace is quick and as the vocals slow, the instrumentals also slow. 2: 34 -2: 54 Instrumental bridge 2: 54 -3: 15 Chorus 3: 15 -4: 45 Repeating lyrics 4: 45 -4: 49 Silence During this instrumental solo the mandolin and fiddle provide a harmonic melody with a soft dynamic and a slow but steady pace. The quality of the sound is what you would expect from stringed instruments being strummed, plucked, and bowed. During this chorus, there is a soft dynamic with a soft instrumental backing. The female vocal solo carries the melody of the chorus which begins with a soft dynamic. From 3: 13 -3: 15 there is a crescendo and a climax at 3: 15. For nearly 90 seconds the lyrics “all good things come with time” repeat over and over. During this time there are variations in intensity and pace. The tempo and dynamic are medium loud from 3: 15 -3: 25. From 3: 25 -4: 07 the dynamic remains constant initially as the pace slows, then both the dynamic and tempo slow to a soft and steady pace. At 4: 08 the dynamic and tempo increase again for nearly 12 seconds. From 4: 20 -4: 45 the vocals and instrumentals slow down and soften to bring the song to a close.
