What is a mechanical power press? • “A mechanical power press shears, punches, forms, or assembles metal or other materials by means of tools or dies attached to slides or rams. Metalworking occurs by placing stock on a bottom die and striking it with a top die. ” • In other words, a machine that uses brute force to squash something into a predetermined shape.

What is the point of operation? • The area on the press where work

What is the point of operation? • The area on the press where work is being done on the material that needs to be shaped. • Ex: A piece of sheet metal is placed on the press in order to shape it into a car hood.
