What is it? Mechanical engineering applies physics and material science principles to design, manufacture, analyze, and maintain mechanical systems. It is the oldest and broadest of the engineering disciplines.
Required education ● To get a career as a mechanical engineer you need to have at least a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. ○ Students can complete a two-year pre-engineering degree and find related work as a mechanical drafter. ○ Then they can transfer to a four-year school to finish the remaining requirements. ● They will need a state license to offer services to the public. ● They can also earn optional certifications. ● Some mechanical engineers may get a Master’s or Doctoral degree in order to have an academic career doing research or teaching.
