The instrument used for measuring temperature in the metric system is the Celsius thermometer. It measures the freezing point of water at 0 o. C and the boiling point of water at 100 o C The unit of measure for temperature is the degree celsius.

Using a Thermometer 1. Do not shake down thermometer before using. 2. To avoid breakage, it is best to hold the top of thermometer while using. 3. When the liquid in thermometer is no longer moving, you can read the temperature of the substance.

To correctly find the temperature of a liquid, make sure thermometer is not touching the bottom of the container. The bulb of the celsius thermometer needs to be surrounded by the substance in order to record the correct temperature.

Remember that the temperature of substances are not changing as you move between a Celcius thermometer and a Fahrenheit thermometer.
