Meadows Elementary Mrs. Mc. Causland’s Kindergarten Class By: Alexis Taylor
What did I do? Throughout a four week span I spent my afternoons at Meadows. I helped the kids write, read, I helped with math (tubs) and calendar time. I was also asked to go to gym, music, and library time with the class a couple times. Besides helping the kids, I helped Mrs. M out a lot with things like reading to the class when she was busy, photocopying, organizing, and getting things ready for recesses and home time.
What did I learn? Each day I spent at meadows gave me a new perspective of how each child learns, how each child grows, and how important it is to have a stability of a classroom setting for kids in their early years.
What did I enjoy most? I enjoyed working with the kids on a project then seeing their faces light up with the biggest smile after they successfully finished the assigned project.
What did I like the least? I was not to fond of the constant interrupting while Mrs. M was trying to speak about something rather critical to their days work.
Challenges? Mrs. Mc. Causland teaches two different classes of kindergartens and within each class there is one child that I was there to help out the most. Now the thing that i found challenging about that was when they would have an issue and break down and I was just clueless as to how to get them to calm down and explain what their problem was.
Confidentiality Confidentially is extremely important therefore I could not capture any pictures or say any names.
Important qualities to obtain: Patience Be very energetic Be open to collaborating with others Positivity Willingness Quick thinking and great social skills (when dealing both with parents and students)
Future Career? Yes, I would love to become a teacher for a grade anywhere from k-5.
Schooling and applying? 3 -5 years Looks good to have a major, minor, early childhood classes, and finally receiving your Bachelors of Education. You apply online to a direct position, submit full resume and paperwork, attended interview (about 1 hour) and dress conservative.
