SALARY GRID SYSTEM APPLICATION • Applies to Day Unit members paid under the Classification Study. Does not apply to hourly employees (who will receive a 2. 5% increase July 1) • Effective July 1, 2017 if ratified
SALARY GRID SYSTEM GOALS • Creates more transparency and fairness for Day Unit salaries • Brings MCCC in-line with salary structures of other Community Colleges across the country • Builds professional achievement compensation into structure of salary system, instead of bargaining it every cycle of negotiations
SALARY GRID GOALS • Creates more fairness between professional staff and faculty salaries (e. g. The grid system eliminates point differentials and creates rank equivalencies. ) • Allows for more predictability in career earnings
SALARY GRID BASICS • Different grids for professional staff and faculty (See grids on MCCC website) • Different grids based on faculty rank and professional staff grades • Structures of all grids the same
SALARY GRID STRUCTURE Columns running horizontally reflect education achievement, including: • Bachelors/Associate • Masters + 15 **NEW • Masters + 30 (additional) • Masters +45 • ABD **NEW • PHD, JD, MD • Competitive Placement
SALARY GRID STRUCTURE Intervals running vertically down grid will reward various professional achievements including: • Tenure • Rank change/tenure equivalency for professional staff • Post-tenure review …more on this later
SALARY GRID MOVEMENT: FACULTY RANK CHANGE • Grid for each rank: Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor • Move to the same interval on new grid when change rank. This move is worth 2. 5% Note: The new rank interval may be numbered differently due to added intervals for the Associate and Professor ranks. See the “prior rank” interval column on grid for placement.

SALARY GRID MOVEMENT: FACULTY TENURE AND PT REVIEW Intervals: Move down one interval when achieve 1) tenure and 2) for successful post-tenure review. This is worth 1. 25%*. (partial grid shown below)
SALARY GRID MOVEMENT: Professional Staff • Grid for each grade: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 • Structure of each grid is the same. (education credentials and number of intervals)

Future Across the Board Increases: All Grid Values are Increased New grid shows 3% increase
SALARY GRID PLACEMENT: Current Employees • Placed on the grid that corresponds to your grade or rank • Placed the column that reflects your highest degree (Note: Employees earning more than highest salary for degree placed in “Off-Lane” column- Column H) • Placed on the interval that provides a minimum of a 2% increase (rounded to the nearest 1/100 of 1%)
SALARY GRID PLACEMENT: New Employees • Placed on the grid according to Classification Study point chart in contract. • Salary calculated according to point system. • Employee placed on respective grid and education column at closest interval that is equal to or greater than calculated salary.
