Shimming plan § Input from the collaring mock-up test campaign: the peak excess must not exceed 300 μm § We consider possible steps of 50 μm in the shimming. § Shimming plan first proposal: § Average left/right peak excess: 297 μm § Maximum peak excess: 312 μm § Shimming plan second proposal: § Average left/right peak excess: 247 μm § Maximum peak excess: 262 μm logo area 2

Collaring procedure § § § § § The procedure is based n the one used for SP 106 and applied to the 150 mm mock-up. It has been adapted to fit the constraint of the prototype tooling. STEP 1: Stoppers 70. 70 mm (shim 1 mm) Press 50 bars (4. 2 MN) “ 0” LVDT Relax STEP 2: Stoppers 70 mm (shim 0. 3 mm) Press 50 bars (4. 2 MN) Increase pressure by steps to reach the contact on the stoppers (contact is defined by the measure of the LVDT) Relax STEP 3: Stoppers 69. 85 mm (shim 0. 15 mm) Press 50 bars (4. 2 MN) Increase pressure by steps until the keys go in. Results CCS (excess 240 μm) Large difference between collars in the same cross-section… For SP 108, CMM of the collars and calibration in the mock-up with dummy coils to understand what part of this difference is due to the collars and to the coil. Collaring force § Results of the collaring mock-up with 118: § Excess 200 μm – Force 420 KN § Excess 250 μm – Force 470 KN § SP 107: § Collaring force: 10. 5 MN (790 KN for 150 mm!) § Stopper size: 69. 85 mm (clearance 150 μm) To be consistent with the mock-up, we should have 40% of the force going in the tooling… (analysis on-going) logo area To edit speaker name go to Insert > Header & Footer and apply to all slides except title page 12
Displacement § § With the minimum force applied with the press (4. 2 MN), the right side of the collaring tool is already in contact. This is due to the non-parallelism of the press already observed on SP 106. Then the force is gradually increased until both sides of the tooling are in contact but a certain amount of force is lost in the tooling. logo area Courtesy of P. Grosclaude 13
