Alpha Challenge • On November 17 th / 18 th, 2016, Kenan-Flagler Business School will host the premier MBA event in the investment management industry for the 11 th consecutive year • Alpha Challenge pits 3 -person teams from top MBA programs against one another in a competition focused on a long/short investment strategy • Participants will receive a defined set of stocks and are required to propose 2 -3 trades in presentation format. • An internal competition will determine the team representing KFBS. – Every team is required to have at least one 1 st year student. • Over 40 firms will be represented (judges, sponsors, observers), and 20+ will conduct interviews of the participants • Alpha Challenge is student-run, and requires significant student support to run the conference – Contact 2 Y MBAs: Elise Radolf and Devon Pennington – Note: They won the 2015 competition! www. alphachallenge. org

Basic Tips for the Job Market • Be committed to your path • Start today: Much of the market is informal (e. g. , 2 nd years) • You need lots of market and investment knowledge – Observe AIM presentations, practice asset pitches with classmates, engage actively in the investment club (more stock pitches) • 2 nd year MBAs and recent alumni are your best resource – Knock on a lot of doors • Attend club events & get involved with the Alpha Challenge • Follow the markets religiously • Get H’s in your finance and economics courses • Consider starting the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exams – Scholarships available – See Professor Snively for details
