Welcome to the MBA Library Orientation! This tutorial will • Introduce you to examples of library resources • Show you how to access these resources • Illustrate the data available within these resources The resources shown in the tutorial are merely representative of many other resources not shown here. You are encouraged to investigate library resources more extensively on your own.
Library Homepage The online library contains numerous subscription databases. “Article databases -- Major” is a good place to start.
Major Article Databases The library’s major databases offer full text coverage of periodicals, peer-review journals, and newspapers. Some specific sources are unique to one database or another. These databases can be excellent research resources for many different courses in your program. Pro. Quest® is one of the library’s major databases. Let’s use it as an example.
Major Article Databases: Search To illustrate how to search Pro. Quest® or any other major database, enter keywords in the Basic Search box, edit any needed parameters, and then click “Search. ” For this example, we’ll search for full text documents about “Male Pattern Baldness in scholarly journals. ”
Major Article Databases: Search Results You can see how Pro. Quest® returns your search results. Notice the full bibliographic information and the document formats (full-text, PDF, etc. ). To exit, click “Return to Library” at the top right.
Library Homepage Through the “Company Directories and Financials” link you can access several databases specializing in detailed information about companies and their financial data.
Company Directories and Financials Mergent Online is one example of these specialized databases. It contains detailed financial reports about public companies throughout the world. It can be an excellent resource for courses in finance.
Company Directories and Financials Mergent Online can be searched by company name or by a company’s ticker symbol. To illustrate let’s search for information on Microsoft by entering the ticker symbol “MSFT. ”
Company Directories and Financials By clicking on the company name “Microsoft Corporation” in the search results you can access detailed company financial information.
Library Homepage The “Country Profiles and Economic Data” link provides access to several databases specializing in the economic profiles of countries.
Country Profiles and Economic Data EIU Country Intelligence is one of these specialized country databases. It can be an excellent resource for courses in international business.

Country Profiles and Economic Data In-depth economic data for the country can be viewed or downloaded.
Library Homepage The library also subscribes to many other specialized databases that provide access to resources in particular fields or disciplines. These can be accessed through the “Article Databases -- Specialized” link.
Specialized Article Databases Let’s use the RDS Business Reference Suite as an example of these specialized databases. This database provides such things as statistical resources, a solutions index for common workplace issues, and trade journals and newsletters. RDS Business Reference Suite can be an excellent resource for intermediate and advance Business courses.
Specialized Article Databases Searches can be limited to particular industries, concepts, keywords, document types, and even geographic region. A sample search could be for the key phrase “Intellectual Property, and limit results to Case Studies on that topic.
Specialized Article Databases You can see that, even with specific search parameters, RDS Business Reference Suite returns a large number of results.
r. Esource Resources Additional resources are available outside the library, on your r. Esource page. The Links Library is one example of these.
