How Firm a Foundation CCLI #606984
How firm a foundation Ye saints of the Lord Is laid for your faith In His excellent Word
What more can He say Than to you He hath said To you who for refuge To Jesus have fled
Fear not I am with thee O be not dismayed For I am thy God And will still give thee aid
I’ll strengthen thee help thee And cause thee to stand Upheld by my righteous Omnipotent hand
When through fiery trials Thy pathway shall lie My grace all sufficient Shall be thy supply
The flame shall not hurt thee I only design Thy dross to consume And thy gold to refine
The soul that on Jesus Hath leaned for repose I will not Desert to his foes
That soul though all hell Should endeavor to shake I’ll never no never No never forsake
He Leadeth Me O Blessed Thought
He leadeth me O blessed thought O words with heavenly comfort fraught Whate'er I do where-e'er I be Still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me
He leadeth me By His own hand He leadeth me His faithful follower I would be For by His hand He leadeth me
Sometimes 'mid scenes of deepest gloom Sometimes where Eden's bowers bloom By waters still o'er troubled sea Still 'tis His hand that leadeth me
He leadeth me By His own hand He leadeth me His faithful follower I would be For by His hand He leadeth me
And when my task on earth is done When by Thy grace the vict'ry's won E'en death's cold wave I will not flee Since God through Jordan leadeth me
He leadeth me By His own hand He leadeth me His faithful follower I would be For by His hand He leadeth me

I am Thine O Lord I have heard Your voice And it told Your love to me But I long to rise in the arms of faith And be closer drawn to Thee
Draw me nearer To the cross where Thou hast died Draw me nearer To Your precious bleeding side Draw me nearer
Consecrate me now to Your service Lord By the power of grace divine Let my soul look up with a steady hope And my will be lost in Thine
Draw me nearer To the cross where Thou hast died Draw me nearer To Your precious bleeding side
There are depths of love that I cannot know Till I cross the narrow sea There are heights of joy that I may not reach Till I rest in peace with Thee
Draw me nearer To the cross where Thou hast died Draw me nearer To Your precious bleeding side Draw me nearer
Colossians 3: 18– 21 (NASB) Wives, be subject to your husbands, 19 as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.
Colossians 3: 18– 21 (NASB) Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well 21 pleasing to the Lord. Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart. 20
Christ is Enough for Our Families The world wants to distract us with lesser goals.
Christ is Enough for Our Families 91 percent of Americans believe “the best way to find yourself is by looking within yourself” and a large majority believe that “to be fulfilled in life, you should pursue things you desire most” (D. Kinnaman).
Christ is Enough for Our Families True blessedness comes not to those who chase whatever makes them happy but to those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (see Matt 5: 6).
Christ is Enough for Our Families Righteousness includes God’s design for the family.
Christ is Enough for Our Families • 55 percent of Americans believe you are a religious extremist if you teach your child that sexual relationships between people of the same sex are morally wrong.
Christ is Enough for Our Families • Only 39 percent of Americans under age 40 believe marriage is a union of one man and one woman.
Christ is Enough for Our Families These are the people God is calling us to reach. A key way we reach them is by proving the wisdom of God in our families.
Christ is Enough for Our Families There is no distinction with respect to how one is saved. In Christ, we are one people, but we are one people with a diversity of roles.
Christ is Enough for Our Families Moo writes, being a new creation was “never intended to eradicate all distinctions between men and women, husbands and wives, children and parents” (296).
Christ is Enough for Our Families Christ does not nullify our family roles; He infuses them with gospel significance. A family that runs on God’s terms is a witness to Christ who makes it possible.
Sermon in a Sentence To prove Christ is enough for our families: 1) wives must submit to their husbands; 2) husbands must love their wives and must not be harsh with them; 3) children must obey their parents in all things, and 4) fathers must cultivate the hearts of their children.
Christ is Enough for Our Work 1. Wives must submit to their husbands (18).
Christ is Enough for Our Families “‘fitting to the Lord’ does not limit the submission…but explains why it is necessary” (Moo, 302).
Christ is Enough for Our Families An incredible proof of your union to a perfectly loving Christ is your power and even desire to submit to and support an imperfect husband.
Christ is Enough for Our Families Submission brings order to a relationship that would otherwise be characterized by chaos and dysfunction.
Christ is Enough for Our Families All Christians submit • all believers to God (Heb 12: 9; Jas 4: 7) • Church to Christ (Eph 5: 24) • people to governments (Rom 13: 1, Titus 3: 1) • Christians to their leaders (1 Cor 16: 16) • young men to older men (1 Pet 5: 5)
Christ is Enough for Our Families And within the marriage relationship, God has said wives must submit.
Christ is Enough for Our Families “The wife ‘puts herself under’ her husband in recognizing and living out an ‘order’ established by God within the marriage relationship. As Paul puts it in 1 Cor 11: 3, ‘The head of a wife is her husband’ -- the husband, as the ‘prominent’ and ‘directing’ member of the relationship, is to take the lead (300).
Christ is Enough for Our Families How can a wife joyfully submit to her husband in a world that lampoons the idea?
Christ is Enough for Our Families We must remember the command to submit is no more radical than the gospel itself.
Christ is Enough for Our Families We must cultivate a culture of doing marriage God’s way.
Christ is Enough for Our Families Older women…train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self -controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled (Titus 2: 3– 5).
Christ is Enough for Our Families Wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives. (1 Pet 3: 1)
Christ is Enough for Our Families Moms: If you can submit to your husband who is imperfect, surely your children can submit to Christ who is Perfection.
Christ is Enough for Our Families 2. Husbands must love their wives and must not be harsh with them (19).
Christ is Enough for Our Families “No other code we have discovered from the ancient world requires husbands to love their wives” (Moo, 302).
Christ is Enough for Our Families Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her. (Eph 5: 25)
Christ is Enough for Our Families In a Godly marriage, the husband uses his authority to prosper his wife.
Christ is Enough for Our Families Husbands, you must leverage the leadership God and your wife have entrusted to you to bless your wife.
Christ is Enough for Our Families Husbands: not being embittered means you must not be a jerk.
Christ is Enough for Our Families Verse 19 shows the relational curse of Genesis 3 is reversed in Christ. A husband’s loveless rulership is restored to loving leadership in Christ.
Christ is Enough for Our Families Husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way. . . so that your prayers may not be hindered (1 Pet 3: 7).
Christ is Enough for Our Families Why are wives commanded to submit and husbands commanded to love? “Perhaps this pattern reflects the particular susceptibilities of each partner: wives may be tempted to chafe under the ‘headship’ of their husbands; and husbands are prone to abuse their leadership role” (Moo, 303).
Christ is Enough for Our Families 3. Children must obey their parents in all things (20).
Christ is Enough for Our Families He does not say, children ask your mother and, if you don’t like her answer, go ask dad. No, God commands obedience to your parents in all things.
Christ is Enough for Our Families And students, if you have a parent or parents who love you enough to not let you have or do everything you want, thank God for them, and obey them. They are pointing you to the only One who never disappoints.
Christ is Enough for Our Families When you train your kids to live under your authority, you make it easier for them to embrace Christ and His authority.
Christ is Enough for Our Families We can come up with all sorts of excuses and reasons for why our kids won’t obey, but no label or excuse is stronger than this reality – they are sinners. Sin desires them (Gen 4: 7), and if you embrace the excuses and let them run the show, you are risking their eternity and the credibility of your witness for Christ.
Christ is Enough for Our Families Christ is enough for you to raise godly children.
Christ is Enough for Our Families 4. Fathers must cultivate the hearts of their children (21).
Christ is Enough for Our Families Exasperate means to stir up or provoke.
Christ is Enough for Our Families Paul recognizes fathers will have a tendency to just put their kids in their place rather than point them to Jesus.
Christ is Enough for Our Families Both lawlessness and legalism are lethal – they cause children to lose heart, give up… abandon the faith.
Christ is Enough for Our Families Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Eph 6: 4).
Christ is Enough for Our Families We desperately want our children to feel the gravity of their sin so they may feel the glory of forgiveness and restoration.
Christ is Enough for Our Families This sort of faith is cultivated by wives who offer themselves to God through joyful submission to their husbands, husbands who sacrificially love their wives, and children who obey from hearts that have come to know that Christ is enough for your family.

Before the Throne of God
Before throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea A great High Priest whose name is love Who ever lives and pleads for me
My name is graven on His hands My name is written on His heart I know that while in heav’n He stands No tongue can bid me thence depart
When Satan tempts me to despair And tells me of the guilt within Upward I look and see Him there Who made an end of all my sin
Because the sinless Savior died My sinful soul is counted free For God the Just is satisfied To look on Him and pardon me
Behold Him there the risen Lamb My perfect spotless Righteousness The great unchangeable I AM The King of glory and of grace
One with Himself I cannot die My soul is purchased by His blood My life is hid with Christ on high With Christ my Savior and my God
The Stand .
You stood before creation Eternity in Your hand You spoke the earth into motion My soul now to stand
You stood before my failure And carried the cross for my shame My sin weighed upon Your shoulders My soul now to stand
So what can I say And what can I do But offer this heart O God Completely to You
So I'll stand With arms high and heart abandoned In awe of the One Who gave it all
I'll stand My soul Lord to You surrendered All I am is Yours
So I'll stand With arms high and heart abandoned In awe of the One Who gave it all
I'll stand My soul Lord to You surrendered All I am is Yours
So I'll walk upon salvation Your Spirit alive in me My life to declare Your promise My soul now to stand
So what can I say And what can I do But offer this heart O God Completely to You
So I'll stand With arms high and heart abandoned In awe of the One Who gave it all
I'll stand My soul Lord to You surrendered All I am is Yours

Lord I Need You
Lord I come - I confess Bowing here I find my rest And without You I fall apart You're the one that guides my heart
Lord I need You – oh I need You Every hour I need You My one defense my righteousness Oh God how I need You
Where sin runs deep Your grace is more Where grace is found is where You are And where You are Lord I am free Holiness is Christ in me Where You are Lord I am free Holiness is Christ in me
So teach my song to rise to You When temptation comes my way And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You Jesus You're my hope and stay
