Matthew 4: 1 -11 NIV 1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread. ” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. ’”

Lent 2020 The Unvarnished Jesus is a series that calls us to see Jesus

Lent 2020 The Unvarnished Jesus is a series that calls us to see Jesus for who he really is and not who we’d like him to be so that he is more pleasing to the worldly eye. If we’re going to follow Jesus to the cross as his disciples, we must see Christ without the varnish of American Christianity. Join us this Lenten season as we journey together in pursuit of the authentic Jesus.

Jesus and the Devil’s Good Ideas Jesus goes out into the desert for 40

Jesus and the Devil’s Good Ideas Jesus goes out into the desert for 40 days to wrestle with the devil and prepare himself for his calling as Messiah. This event is significant because it’s in the wilderness that Jesus decides what kind of Messiah he will be, what sort of kingdom he will bring, and what his ministry will look like. It’s there that the devil tempted Jesus with three “good” ideas, but Jesus rejected them because he saw how they contradicted who God is and how he saves us. The first message of our series invites us to discern how the devil lurks in good ideas.
