Maths Home Learning Week beginning 09. 11. 20
This week… Day 1 – Mental Maths Day 2 – Making numbers Day 3 – Subtraction (exchanging) Day 4 – Subtraction (exchanging) Day 5 – Word problems
Day 1 Mental Maths
Arithmetic Let’s learn our 5 times tables Click the link 5 Times tables
I do When you are solving a number sentence you can use mental maths methods to help you solve it! For example … Step 1: Get 8 fingers ready 5 x 8 = 40 Step 2: You are going to count In 5’s. Step 3: You are going to count in 5’s 8 times.
We do - 5 x 6= Step 1: Get 6 fingers ready. Step 2: You are going to count in 5’s. Step 3: Count in 5’s 6 times.
Let’s see if you got the right answer 5 x 6 = 30 6 fingers ready. 10 Start counting in 5’s 15 20 This is your answer 5 25 30
You do - Now it’s your turn Work these out using the same method in your home learning books 5 x 0= 5 x 10= 5 x 9= 5 x 7= 5 x 1= 5 x 5=
Day 2 Making Numbers
Arithmetic Let’s practise our Number Bonds to 10 2 + __ = 10 5 + __ = 10 __ + 6 = 10 __ + 3 = 10 2 + 8 = __
I do – Making a number Tens Ones 6 Let’s use base ten to show we can make the number 6 This shows that there are 6 ones
We do Tens Ones 12 This shows 2 ones This shows 1 0 ones = 1 ten
You do Tens Ones 19 Remember to draw your tens and ones
Let’s see if you got it right. . Tens Ones 19
Now it’s your turn In your home learning books draw the base ten for these numbers 4 67 29 48 12 31
Day 3 Subtraction (exchanging)
Arithmetic Let’s practise our 2 x 1 x 2= 2 x 2= 3 x 2= 4 x 2= 5 x 2= 6 x 2= 7 x 2= 8 x 2= 9 x 2= 10 x 2 =
Exchanging We are going to look at subtraction with exchange. When we exchange we swap 1 of our tens for ten ones. This happens when the number in the ones column is larger than the one your taking away. T O 42– 16= We cannot take 6 ones away from 2 ones Remember when subtracting your So we need cross one of ours tens out and Largest number always goes first swap it for 10 ones.
I do - Subtraction 24 -17= The largest number always goes first T O Remember to exchange your ten for ones 24 - 1 7 = This shows that 1 ten needs to be taken away This shows that 7 ones need to be taken away but before you do that you need to exchange one of your tens for ten ones because 7 is bigger than 4
We do - 42 -24=18 T O After you have Exchanged your ones You can take 2 tens away This shows you are Left with 1 ten 4 2– 2 4 = T O First we take one of our tens away to exchange it for 10 ones because 4 is bigger than 2 Now we can take 4 ones away We now have 8 ones left
You do - 53 -36= Remember to partition your numbers. Your largest number goes first. Remember to exchange your tens for ones
Let’s see if you got it right. . 53 -36=19 T O 53 - 3 6 = Exchange one Ten for ten ones Cross out 6 ones 3 tens You have 9 ones left and 1 ten
Now it’s your turn 23 -18= 31 -15= 42 -26=
Day 4 Subtraction
I do - 42 -34=8 This shows I have 0 tens left and 8 ones. T O 42+34= The answer is 8. I need to exchange 1 ten for ten ones so I can take 4 ones away
We do - 4 6 - 2 7 =1 9 Remember to cross them out clearly so you can count the tens and ones left over. T O 46 -27= You need to exchange 1 ten for 10 ones.
You do – 51 -14= Remember to draw your Tens and Ones clearly Exchange 1 ten for 10 ones Then takeaway your ones then your tens
Let’s see if you are right… 51 -14=37 T O 51 - 14= T O
Now it’s your turn In your home learning books complete these 63 -25= 43 -27= 32 -29= 54 -36= Remember to exchange 1 ten for ten ones first
Day 5 Word problems
Let’s practise our times tables from this week Complete these in your home learning books 2 x 5= 4 x 2= 1 x 5= 6 x 5= 2 x 2= 7 x 2= 5 x 5= 6 x 2= 10 x 2 = 1 x 5= 10 x 5 = 9 x 2=
I do - Word problems Miss Canning has 2 2 sweets. Miss Dawson takes 1 4 sweets. How many sweets does Miss Canning have now? T O 22 Takeaway 14 T O 2 2 - 1 4=8 Exchange 1 ten for ten ones because 4 is bigger than 2
We do - Mrs Salthouse has 4 4 pencils. Miss Bismillah takes 2 7 pencils. How many pencils does Mrs Salthouse have left? 44– 27=
Let’s see if your right. . T O 4 4 - 2 7 =17
Now it’s your turn! In your home learning books complete these… Ben has 3 1 apples. Tim takes 1 3 apples. How many does Ben have left? Sam has 4 2 toy cars. His brother takes 1 6. How many does Sam have now? Lilly has 4 3 flowers. Her mum takes 2 7. How many does Lilly have now?
Challenge time! Try to solve the following number sentences… 52 - 27 = 64 - 35 =
