Mathematics Lesson Plan Class: Form 3 Topic: Vectors 2 Sub Topic: Coordinates in Three Dimension Objective: By the end of the lesson the learner should be able to: • Read coordiates of a point in three dimensions • Locate a point • Determine the position vectors in 3 dimensions
Introduction • Anytime one needs to know the location of something – where something should be or where something actually is – a coordinate plane is a very useful tool. The position of any object on the world can be described using a simple coordinate system. We have latitude and longitude in real life situation.

Coordinates in two dimension
The 3 -dimensional Co-ordinate System We can expand our 2 -dimensional (x-y) coordinate system into a 3 -dimensional coordinate system, using x-, y-, and z-axes.
Three Dimensional Coordinates A system for locating points in three dimensions. This is typically done using (x, y, z) coordinates, but any variables may be used. Example: The point (1, 2, 3) plotted in (x, y, z) coordinates
Measure the lengths OR, OS, QP, and denote them by x, y, z respectively. We call the three numbers (x, y, z), in the order given, the Cartesian coordinates of the point P
In 3 -dimensional space, the point (2, 3, 5) is graphed as follows:
Solution A' (5, 0, 0), B' (11, 0, 0), C' (11, 3, 0), D' (5, 3, 0), E' (5, 3, 9), F' (5, 0, 9), G' (11, 3, 9), and H' (11, 0, 9).
