MATHEMATICS FACULTY, MATHEMATICS STUDENTS Why Do They Look So Different? The bottom line of the story: There is a pathway through the sciences, through the education system. At each stage of the pathway, we’re losing critical talent. This is not good given the changing demographics. The faculty is looking less like the student body as the student body becomes more diverse.
