Student Expectations � Be Prompt - Arrive to class on time ◦ Once you enter the class, stay in class. If you are outside of class when the tardy bell rings you are tardy. � Be Prepared - Agenda book, textbook, binder, notes spiral, assignments, etc. ◦ You will not be allowed to leave class to go to your locker for ANYTHING � Be Polite - Respect teachers, classmates and property ◦ You will NOT be allowed to interfere will another’s right to learn. � Be a Participant - Stay on task/Be an active learner ◦ NO SLACKERS or YACKERS ALLOWED � Be Positive - Always put forth your best effort; don’t be afraid to try ◦ Whether you think you can or think you can’t – You are right.

Paper Headings All math papers must have a proper heading and be completed as stated below. Full Name Date Pershing Math, Period # Teacher Activity Title, Activity # or Page Number 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Start work here. Use pencil only. Work must be readable. Show your work and answer together. Answers must have correct units and be written in complete sentences when relevant.
Grades � � HISD and Pershing guidelines for grading will be followed. Grades will be weighted as follows: ◦ Homework 10% ◦ Classwork 40% ◦ Projects, Quizzes, Tests 50% � Tests count double � � � Classwork, Project and Quiz assignments with grades less than 70 (not caused by lateness) may receive extra credit for corrections. Tutorials are encouraged. Corrections due one week after being returned. Tests lower than a 70 may be retaken with an alternate assessment after student attends tutorials. Students and parents can use the online grade reporting system to keep track of student progress.
Homework � � � Homework is an important tool used to measure understanding and help reteach students’ weak areas. All homework assignments will be recorded in student agendas during class. Homework will be assigned 1 - 3 times a week. Students needing help with homework will try to get assistance from: a friend, parent, online homework help, or tutorials. Homework will be checked and corrected during the first half of class the day it is due. Homework is graded for completion, not accuracy. ◦ Each assignment will receive a grade based on the % completed. � � � Homework will NOT be accepted late unless due to an absence. Students will be rewarded when all members of a group/team have their completed homework in class. Students with 100% homework at the end of each grading cycle will be rewarded.
Missing Assignments & Late Work � Missing Assignments ◦ Parents will be notified of missing assignments by stamps in the agenda, parent phone call and/or Grade. Speed. � Missing Classwork Assignments may be turned in late for partial credit ◦ Each school day an assignment is late will result in 10 point deduction. ◦ Late classwork will not be accepted after five school days. � Homework will be not be accepted late unless the student is absent the day it was assigned or the day it is due. ◦ Remember, students may not return to their locker during class; not even for homework.
Absences & Make-up Work � Absent students must call a friend from home or talk to Miss Pipes the first day they return to school to get missing assignments and turn in work due while they were out. � Students absent from class have one week to make-up missed work. Work turned in after that time will begin to lose points as late work. � Missed homework and classwork can usually be done at home. � Tests, quizzes, and some projects must be completed in the classroom. This can be done during tutorial time, or by making an appointment with the teacher to come in before school.
Tutorials � Students having difficulty with homework, studying for tests or who need to get caught up on missing work should come to tutorials. � Tutorials are Tuesday and Thursday, 3: 45 – 4: 30 p. m. Students arriving to tutorials after 4: 00 may be turned away. �
