100% The length and perimeter comparison factors are the same as the copier size factors. Each side length in the image is found by multiplying the original length by the copy factor.

How about the angles? The measures of the corresponding angles are THE SAME - (but the side lengths may be different. ) 100% How about the area? Since the sides are changed by a factor, the area (a product of the sides: l x w) is changed by a product of the factor and itself. (Squares of the copier size factors!)

Summarizing Lesson 2. 1… • • • Analyze the chart below. Find the RULE: How did they come up with the points (0, 2) and (4, 2) for Zug? What would the first 2 points be for Lug? Bug? Glug?

Summarizing Lesson 2. 1… Which are similar to Mug? Pay attention to the scale…

Completed labsheet for 2. 2…

C 1. Now compare the angles and side lengths of the hats.

Hats 1 & 2 – Angles and side measure are exactly the same as Mug’s Hat. – location on grid changed! Hat 3 – Same width as Mug’s, but its height is 3 times as long, and the bottom angles have larger measures. Hat 4 – The width and height are half as long as Mug’s hat, but the corresponding angles are the same. Hat 5 – The width is 2 times as long, the height is 3 times as long, and it has larger angle measures at the bottom.

Hat 1, 2, and 4 are similar to Mug’s Hat. • Same shape • Same corresponding angles • All Sides have been multiplied by the same factor
