Math Acceleration
§ Accelerate Developmental Math students through the developmental curriculum by reducing the number of courses in the developmental math sequence. § Focus on increasing transfer rates for non-STEM majors who need Statistics to transfer.

Math 248 up – Accelerated Mathematics for Statistics • Developmental Preparatory Course for Math 13 (Statistics) • pre-req is successful completion of pre-algebra or placement into elementary algebra • covers elementary and intermediate algebra topics from Math 201 and 203 that are needed for statistics, with a data analysis contextualization • introduces basic statistical topics covered in college-level statistics
• intended only for those students who want to transfer and need Math 13 • not intended for STEM, nursing, or business majors – who need intermediate algebra as a pre -requisite for other math/science courses • does not substitute for intermediate algebra • students seeking an AA degree before they transfer will need Math 13 to meet their AA requirements
• • 2 sections begun at BCC Spring 2012 COA begins: Fall 2012 5 -credit hour course Meets twice/week; almost 6 hrs/week
