Introduction This program will provide high quality training for doctoral and postdoctoral candidates in order to enrich the body of clinical researchers, including minority investigators, at UH.

Goals To offer knowledge and skills needed to pursue careers in clinical research To function as a supportive mechanism for newly trained investigators To actively facilitate career development To encourage research collaborations, particularly those related to health disparities research To produce well-educated clinical researchers capable of implementing clinical research studies To increase the number and quality of successful clinical investigators, particularly those conducting research designed to reduce and eliminate health disparities among Hawai`i’s diverse ethnic population.

Eligible Participants Medical students Residents and fellows Post-doctoral fellows Ph. D candidates Junior faculty Faculty members who have successfully competed for career development awards from the NIH and other grantors

Intentions To offer an accredited training program that will emphasize epidemiological, methodological, cultural, and ethical issues inherent to clinical research To improve the quantity and quality of research in the state. To refine and implement a rigorous clinical research curriculum To solidify the administrative structure needed to support MSCR activities To foster career development of trainees To help ensure their success as leading investigators in their chosen research fields
