Master’s thesis • The Master’s thesis gives you the opportunity to make an in-depth study of a specific problem. Ø You choose a subject from the database (log in via KUL account) • It is a substantial part of the MIBEM programme: 15 credits (out of 60). • Two separate courses/evaluation sessions: • Literature Review (6 credits) – 2 nd semester. • Research Project (9 credits) – 1 st semester of next year. • All students that start with the master’s thesis in academic year 2020 -2021. Ø Select the literature study (+ research project if applicable) in your ISP before the 7 th of October! Ø Contact your supervisor and have your subject registered before the 23 rd of October! Double Degree with Toulouse School of Management • Practical information: Ø The deadline is on the 27 th of September Ø Documents that are needed to apply: motivation letter and transcript of records from your previous studies Ø Available spots: 5 • On Wednesday the 23 rd of September we will organize an extensive information session on the double degree programme and how to apply for it. It will then also be possible to ask any questions you might have regarding this programme. • The information session will take place at 12. 30 in room 3207, Hermes 1. Exemptions/Credit transfer Faculty of Economics and Business
Exemptions • You ask for exemptions via the exemptions procedure. More information about this procedure can be found here: https: //www. kuleuven. be/campusbrussel/student/en/vrijstellingen • Fill out the form and add the documents that are requested to the exemption tool in KU Loket. • Exemptions for the preparatory and master’s programme need to be requested at the start of academic year 2020 -21. Deadline = 7 th of October • You include the courses in your ISP as you don’t yet know if you will be given the exemptions. • Exemptions are not given after a student has already taken the exam in the (prep) MIBEM. *International students: if you have applied for the programme via international admissions, you received more information about which courses you need to take in the preparatory MIBEM. If you were given exemptions in the preparatory programme, you don’t need to additionaly start an exemption procedure for those courses. Student Administration will automatically give you an exemption package for those courses. No need to include them in your ISP. Faculty of Economics and Business

Courses < 10/20 2 nd exam chance • Retake a course for which you obtained less than 10 out of 20 -> Best result-principle: you keep the best mark! Courses 8/20 or 9/20 (prep MIBEM) • Prep Mibem: 8/20 or 9/20 choice: • Retake (2 nd exam period or next academic year) • Tolerate: • Only for 8/20 or 9/20 • Up to a maximum of 10% of the total amount of SU of the whole preparatory programme minus exemptions • Prep Mibem = 27 credits 2, 7 credit tolerance after round up 3 credit tolerance • Advise: only tolerate after 2 nd attempt, not in January! • Master programme: no tolerances! Feedback exams • After every exam period (Jan, June and Aug/Sep) • Feedback lecturers • Have a look into your exam • Compare expected answer with your answer • Discuss study method • Expectations lecturer • Register digitally for the feedback session on the day you receive your results!! Multiple choice exams • Multiple choice exams (see ECTS files) will (usually) be combined with other evaluation methods (open questions, assignments, presentations, . . . ). • Uniform system for multiple choice exams: standard setting Example: An exam with 40 multiple choice questions each with 4 different answers • Suppose a student guesses all questions (no knowledge). How many correct answers do you expect this student to give? 10 • How many correct answers does a student have to give to pass the exam? 25 • What is the grade for a student with 20 correct answers (10 out 30) or with 30 correct answers (20 out of 30)? • Hint: Solve all questions during a multiple choice exam! 24 Faculteit Economie en Bedrijfswetenschappen
Re-registration • Re-registration for failed courses in following academic years: • 2 nd time: no problem • 3 rd time: no problem • 4 th time: not possible -> you will be denied access to the (prep) MIBEM (and similar programmes) for 3 years! Faculty of Economics and Business
