MASTER IN DE CULTURELE STUDIES/ MASTER OF CULTURAL STUDIES New programme starting 2018 -2019

Structure of the programme • Semester 1: three compulsory core courses for 14 ECTS • Semester 2: choice between two tracks • Dutch programme: courses for 18 ECTS • English programme: courses for 18 or 24 ECTS • Semester 1 & 2: master’s thesis and seminar for 16 ECTS • Semester 1 & 2: internship • Dutch programme: 12 ECTS • English programme: 6 or 12 ECTS

Semester 1 – core courses – 14 ECTS • Cultural Studies: Capita Selecta – 4 ECTS → theory • Cultural Semiotics – 4 ECTS → methodology • Cultural Policy – 6 ECTS → theory and (group)project • 3 h/8 weeks • Exams in December • December/January – Cultural Policy project/ internship

Semester 2 - tracks – 18/24 ECTS • Option between two tracks: • Creative practices: focus on contemporary cultural practice e. g. , graphic novel, comics and photo novella, photography, contemporary dance and literary advice culture • Cultural memory and identity: focus on culture and identity, representation of identity in culture. Importance of digital culture, international/transnational perspective • Within the chosen track students choose courses for 18/24 ECTS • Classes are 3 h/8 weeks for courses taught by CS staff, this creates room in the final month before the exams for master’s thesis

Transition measures • Students who are already enrolled in the master’s programme in 2016 -2017 can still take the courses from the ‘old’ programme: • • Master’s thesis for 18 credits Short internship for 6 credits Cultural Studies: Capita Selecta for 6 credits Cultural Semiotics for 6 credits
