New York • Founder(s): Originally the Dutch and it was called New Amsterdam. James of York (English) • Year: 1614 but in it was taken over by the English in 1663 for fear that English colonist would smuggle goods out of New Amsterdam and not pay British taxes. • Who colonized: Fur traders • Reason: Fur traders • Major works/events: The Dutch allowed people of all nationalities to settle so we see the first Jewish settlers and 1000 slaves. • Type of Government: Separation of Church and State
