Mass, weight and terminal velocity Some Physics ideas involving forces
Mass n Property is held by an object. n No matter where the object goes it has a set mass value n This mass provides the object with an inertia. n And it allows the object to place a gravitational force on other objects.

Weight n Newton’s Second Law of Motion F=ma n The force an object pushes down with is it’s weight. n Objects in a gravitational field experience a force that provides them with an acceleration. n The weight is the result of this acceleration and the mass of the object. Your weight is different on different parts of the Earth as Earth’s gravity is not constant the whole way around. On different planets your weight would change greatly.

Terminal Velocity n Objects should keep accelerating as they fall due to the force of gravity – but they don’t. n An objects maximum falling velocity is the Terminal Velocity. n When the object pushes on the surrounding air to fall through – the air pushes back. This opposite force cancels out some of the force of gravity.
Terminal Velocity n Eventually the force supplied by the air is equal but oppositely directed to the force of gravity. n When the forces are balanced the object no longer accelerates and Terminal Velocity is reached.
