Mass Mass is the amount of matter an object contains. What this

Mass Mass is the amount of matter an object contains. What this means is that the more matter an object has, the more mass it has. When You something has a lot of mass, it is heavy. use a scale to measure the mass.

Mass vs Weight Weight is the force of gravity pulling down on an object with mass. Mass does not change when you go to a different planet or in space, but weight does. If you are on a planet with less gravity, your weight will change, but not your mass.

Volume Volume is a measure of how much space an object takes.

Volume Volume is a measure of how much space an object takes. There are three ways to measure the volume depending on what you are measuring. Regular solid, irregular solid and a liquid are three situations we may encounter.

Measuring Volume When measuring the volume of a regular solid, you can simply

Measuring Volume When measuring the volume of a regular solid, you can simply measure the sides and multiply height x length x width to get the volume.

Measuring Volume When measuring the volume of an irregular solid, you must use

Measuring Volume When measuring the volume of an irregular solid, you must use either an overflow can or a graduated cylinder. The amount that the water rises in the graduated cylinder or the amount of water pushed out of the overflow can gives us the volume.

Measuring volume To measure the volume of a liquid, you must use a

Measuring volume To measure the volume of a liquid, you must use a graduated cylinder. This piece of lab is very precise and therefore can give you a good measurement, unlike a beaker which is far less precise.

Units The units used to measure the mass are: ◦ Kg, g, mg

Units The units used to measure the mass are: ◦ Kg, g, mg The units used to measure volume are: ◦ m. L, L ◦ m 3, cm 3 These units are the standard units of measure.
