Health Reform: Impact After Four Years Reduced rates of uninsured Marylanders Maryland’s uninsured rate is now about 6%, half of what it was for many years prior to 2010, when it remained around 14%. Maryland was 3 rd best in the nation in percentage of new enrollees at 40% (new) of the total number of enrollees. In 2017, Maryland was 5 th best in the nation for young adult enrollments (ages 18 -34), up from 9 th in 2016. In fact, 30% of all enrollees in the state were young adults. 4

Health Reform: Impact after Four Years High enrollment among key populations Sizable gains have been made for populations that lacked coverage at disproportionately high rates including young adults, African Americans and Hispanic households. African American and Hispanic 2017 enrollments were 18% and 12% respectively of total enrollments. Biggest improvement in the insured households since 2010 has come in rural counties on the Eastern Shore and Western Maryland as well as Baltimore city, with gains of 7 or 8% more insured in those areas. 5

Over 500, 000 individuals were able to get coverage under Medicaid expansion, as of June 2017. 6
