Martin Jenkins (1942 -2015) wave 2015 Jenkin’s sculptures bring a poetic vision to the humblest of materials. Cut from sheets of corrugated cardboard, his work can be touched as well as viewed. His work evokes the English landscape and was often inspired by places personal to him and his family. Wave is a response to Paul Nash’s winter sea but was also informed by Jenkins’ love of the ocean ‘. . the sea has always had a powerful impact on my imagination. ’ The Three painting in the background are: -Gustave Loiseau, Port de Goulphar -Dame Ethel Walker, Robin Hood’s Bay in Winter mid 1030’s -Philip Wilson Steer, Dover Coast 18601942

Braganza was much impressed with these geological forms and began to experimant with ceramic forms creating these twelve, almost human-like figurines. The Twelve Apostles have been places alongside our religious paintings of disciples and saints as a reminder of how historically, clay figures were used in devotion or to pray to gods for fertility and good fortune.

Ewen Henderson Torso Form, 1986 -1987 Reaching Sculpture Form, 1999 Henderson studied pottery under Lucie Rie and Hans Coper at the Camberwell School of Art, but rebelled against both teachers by building vessels freely rather than on the wheel. He wanted to be a painter but was attracted to clay because of the exciting possibilities it offered. Painting and Sculpture soon became one, using earth as a medium for his work, Henderson used extreme temperatures mixing clay with other materials to achieve unexpected results. The form here reflects craggy landscape that surrounded him. The two paintings in the background are: -Dame Ethel Walker, Robin Hood’s Bay in Winter mid 1030’s -Philip Wilson Steer, Dover Coast 18601942
