Well-researched character: Demonstrate that you know who this character is (refer to character Power. Points you have created) i. e. referring to your troubled relationship with your son if you are Juror 3 Detailed evidence given to prove innocence: You will need to read through the play and refer to the specific evidence given and questioned (for both the Juror or Accused)
Insightful understanding: Bringing your own perspective to the situation and context Contextual background: Consider the racism and class-ism associated with the Civil Rights Movement at that time, the fragility of the justice system, how the effects of peer pressure can influence others into going against their own conscience, the pack mentality which remains cause of many of the world's problems. Try to build in your understanding of these influences and how they affected your character
Your monologue should include: Some colloquial/conversational language indicating you are character speaking in a realistic situation e. g. “I guess it wasn’t until…” Dramatic/persuasive language that engages the audience and keeps them intrigued e. g. “Today I wish to do what my lawyer failed to do; prove my innocence” The use of emotive and descriptive language to reveal thoughts/emotions. I. e. not saying “I was irritated” but showing you were; “Every time that man spoke there was a ticking in my mind, my heart rate quickened, I could feel my blood boiling to the surface” Body language to communicate emotion or information: gestures, eye contact, posture, facial expressions, use of space
