A matter of definition…and expectation • According to the Dutch government: no “note-worthy” bottom impact • The degree of bottom impact depends on the type of seafloor, the activity and the type of gear. Shrimp fishery in the coastal zone and flyshoot on the Doggerbank are not considered note-worthy bottom impact. • According to the North Sea Foundation: complete seafloor protection • Full, year-round seafloor protection against all forms of bottom-impacting fisheries, with nature conservation as priority goal. • According to the Dutch fishing sector: prohibition of certain gear • For some fishermen a large part of the North Sea is inaccessibly due to exclusions of certain gear types
