The Solid Rock
My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame But wholly lean on Jesus' name
On Christ the solid Rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand
When darkness seems to hide His face I rest on His unchanging grace In every high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil
On Christ the solid Rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand
His oath, His covenant his blood Support me in the whelming flood When all around my soul gives way He then is all my Hope and Stay
On Christ the solid Rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand
When He shall come with trumpet sound O may I then in Him be found Dressed in His righteousness alone Faultless to stand before throne
On Christ the solid Rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand
I Know Whom I Have Believed
I know not why God’s wondrous grace To me He hath made known Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love Redeemed me for his own
But “I know whom I have believed And am persuaded that he is able To keep that which I’ve committed Unto him against that day”
I know not how this saving faith To me he did impart Nor how believing in his Word Wrought peace within my heart
But “I know whom I have believed And am persuaded that he is able To keep that which I’ve committed Unto him against that day”
I know not how the Spirit moves Convincing men of sin Revealing Jesus through the Word Creating faith in him
But “I know whom I have believed And am persuaded that he is able To keep that which I’ve committed Unto him against that day”
I know not when my Lord may come At night or noonday fair Nor if I’ll walk the vale with him Or meet him in the air
But “I know whom I have believed And am persuaded that he is able To keep that which I’ve committed Unto him against that day”

I’m Standing on the Solid Rock Singing Saints
Colossians 2: 16– 23 (NASB) Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day— 17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.
Colossians 2: 16– 23 (NASB) 18 Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind,
Colossians 2: 16– 23 (NASB) 19 and not holding fast to the head, from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God.
Colossians 2: 16– 23 (NASB) 20 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, 21 “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!”
Colossians 2: 16– 23 (NASB) 22 (which all refer to things destined to perish with use) — in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men? 23 These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us “It’s hard to be humble when you are as great as I am. ” - Garfield
The Sermon In a Sentence If we are going to honor God rather than men, 1) we must not confuse the shadow for the Savior (16– 17); 2) we must keep clinging to Christ rather than delighting in selfinflating externals, and 3) we must be dead with Christ to the elementary principles of the world (20– 23).
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us 1. We must not confuse the shadow for the Savior (16– 17).
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us Since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never…make perfect those who draw near Hebrews 10: 1
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us To pursue the shadows after the light has come is to pursue the darkness of a guiltdominated, guilt-motivated life which is no life at all.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us The threefold use of festival or a New Moon or a Sabbath day (16) is common in the Old Testament. See, for example: 1 Chron 23: 31; Hos 2: 11
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us “The philosophy is the product of mere human speculation and does not put its adherents in touch with divine truth. ” (Douglass Moo, 187).
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us They wanted to maintain and even increase the dietary restrictions of Judaism and certainly they wanted to keep the calendar.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us As any good Baptist knows, we cannot mess with the calendar.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us Christ our Sabbath and Light has come and displaced the shadow. Why ask me to observe the Passover, when all my sins have already been passed over in Christ? Why do you think food that I do or do not partake of can save me when I’m already feasting on the Bread of Life?
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us “The main purpose of placing such stress on all regulations was to convince the Colossians that strict observance was absolutely indispensable to salvation. ” - Hendricksen
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us Don’t let anyone insist salvation is in the shadow. It is only found in the substance, literally “the body of Christ” (17).
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us 2. We must keep clinging to Christ rather than delighting in self-inflating externals.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us Paul commands let no one disqualify you, or decide as an umpire against you.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us Paul commands let no one disqualify you, or decide as an umpire against you.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us They were blown up to the point of thinking they could stand in judgment over others.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us The work of the heretics is not love; it is control. They don’t want you to hold fast to Christ the head (19) because that means you won’t have to hold fast to them for their approval
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us Humility, is…a precious virtue, but the humility of which this false teacher boasted was nothing but a thin disguise for insufferable pride” (Hendricksen, 125)
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us Spiritual heretics are often found among those seeking spiritual highs through selfexalting methods that bypass the truth that Christ is enough.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us “They have minds alright, but minds that are thoroughly oriented to this world rather than the next. ” (Moo, 225)
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us It is impossible to hold fast to the externals and hold fast to Christ the head at the same time.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us North Roanoke, we have much that we could modify or let go of, but we must never let go of Christ. He is an anchor for our soul, the Head of this body, and He is enough (19).
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us 3. We must be dead with Christ to the elementary principles of the world (20 – 23).
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us G. K. Chesterton writes, “In truth there are only two kinds of people, those who accept dogmas and know it, and those who accept dogmas and don’t know it. ”
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us Whatever the system, the world’s dogma, is this, “you can do it, ” but the Bible’s dogma is this, “Christ has done it!” There’s nothing wrong with dogmatically staking your life on this truth – I am Christ’s, and He is enough!
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us Because the rules: • pertain to matters of this world (20), • are the commandments and teachings of men (22), and • the rules make for good appearances but cannot bring spiritual transformation (23).
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us Rule-following never produces the righteousness of God.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us “Idolatry is committed, not merely by setting up false gods, but also by setting up false devils; by making men afraid of war or alcohol, or economic law, when they should be afraid of spiritual corruption and cowardice. ” - G. K. Chesterton
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us The heretics want you to believe they’ve conquered the flesh through their behavior – but they can’t – it is of no value against fleshly indulgence (23).
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us We relate to material things in a godly way not to earn God’s favor but because we have God’s favor.
Christ is Enough to Qualify Us It’s time to stop trusting in appearances and let Christ be your life – Christ is enough.

Your Grace is Enough
Great is Your faithfulness O God You wrestle with The sinner’s heart You lead us by Still waters into mercy And nothing can keep us apart
So remember Your people Remember Your children Remember Your promise O God
Your grace is enough for me
Great is Your love and justice God You use the weak To lead the strong You lead us in The song of Your salvation And all Your people sing along
So remember Your people Remember Your children Remember Your promise O God
Your grace is enough for me
Before the Throne of God
Before throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea A great High Priest whose name is love Who ever lives and pleads for me
My name is graven on His hands My name is written on His heart I know that while in heav’n He stands No tongue can bid me thence depart
When Satan tempts me to despair And tells me of the guilt within Upward I look and see Him there Who made an end of all my sin
Because the sinless Savior died My sinful soul is counted free For God the Just is satisfied To look on Him and pardon me
Behold Him there, the risen Lamb My perfect, spotless Righteousness The great unchangeable I AM The King of glory and of grace
One with Himself, I cannot die My soul is purchased by His blood My life is hid with Christ on high With Christ my Savior and my God
I bow before the cross of Christ And marvel at this love divine God's perfect Son was sacrificed To make me righteous in God's eyes
This river's depths I cannot know But I can glory in its flood The Lord Most High has bowed down low And poured on me His glorious love
My Soul Longs For the Lord
My soul longs for The Lord in a weary land Wells are dry and I am empty, Only dust in my hands.
How I yearn for streams of mercy Where my soul can be restored ’Come and drink’ Jesus calls me, ’and you will thirst no more’ Oh the fullness of Christ Word of God Word of life
Living Word you walked among us, Our Emmanuel And you spoke into the darkness Broke the powers of hell
Grace and mercy flowed from Calvary To the valley of our need It is done, ‘It is finished’, From every sin set free Oh the victory of Christ Word of God, Word of life
How often in the stillness Have I heard your voice Every whisper every promise calls my heart to rejoice
In the quiet of the morning, through the watches of the night In the fire of my struggles, There’s courage for the fight Oh the power of Christ Word of God, Word of life
My soul longs to walk closer with The Lord I serve More than riches, more than favor I delight in Your Word
Turn my gaze from all that’s worthless Set my heart on things above May my life tell Your goodness Your way of truth and love Oh the wisdom of Christ Word of God, word of life

All I Have is Christ
I once was lost in darkest night Yet thought I knew the way The sin that promised joy and life Had led me to the grave
I had no hope that You would own A rebel to Your will And if You had not loved me first I would refuse You still
But as I ran my hell-bound race Indifferent to the cost You looked upon my helpless state And led me to the cross
And I beheld God’s love displayed You suffered in my place You bore the wrath reserved for me Now all I know is grace
Hallelujah! All I have is Christ Hallelujah! Jesus is my life
Now Lord I would be Yours alone And live so all might see The strength to follow Your commands Could never come from me
O Father use my ransomed life In any way You choose And let my song forever be My only boast is You
Hallelujah! All I have is Christ Hallelujah! Jesus is my life
