Stonewall Jackson’s Shenandoah Campaign Ruffles Northern Feathers ✤ ✤ ✤ May - June, 1862 Bucking orders by Lee to conduct “diversionary” operations in the Shenandoah Valley, General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson brilliantly out-maneuvers northern generals. This strategy forces the Union to divert more troops to protect Washington, D. C. to calm panicked civilians. Jackson’s troops marched 350 miles, defeated 3 Union armies, seized supplies, and wreaked havoc all in a mere 30 days. Jackson seals his fate as a Confederate legend.
