March 2021 Welcome to March! Spring is just around the corner and I think this year that comes with new hope and more excitement than ever before. It will be so great to have the nice weather and to be able to be outdoors again! We successfully completed our Ministry Audit and our Foster Parents did fantastic! We want to thank all of them who were involved in this year’s Audit. We thought this would be an appropriate time to refresh everyone on some important information that was a main focus of our Ministry review: Ø Reporting an allegation of abuse should be made to the local CAS Agency first, and Carpe Diem second Ø High risk situations with psychotropic medication (please see below for examples): o o o Psychotropic medications are prescribed “as needed” (Pro Re Nata or PRN) and/or are used “as needed” more than twice a day or for 3 or more consecutive dates Psychotropic medication prescription that has not been reviewed by a health practitioner in more than 6 months A child or youth is prescribed 2 or more psychotropic medications at the same time A child under the age of 7 is prescribed psychotropic medication Any psychotropic medication that is stopped suddenly and abruptly by a child or youth without discussion with a health practitioner Any other situation which causes concern in the opinion of the Licensee NICLES o Ø RPAC (Residential Placement Advisory Committee) ~ A child/youth, 12 years of age and older, has the right to contact RPAC if they wish to review or change their placement should they feel that their Children’s Service Worker (CSW) is not listening to them. Children/youth need to contact the RPAC Office based on the region of their CAS Placement Agency. Contact information can be obtained either from their Carpe Diem Case Manager or their Children’s Service Worker (CSW) as each region has different contacts. Ø Ombudsman ~ Every child/youth has the right to contact the Ombudsman’s Office (Child’s Advocate) if they feel their rights are being violated. The contact # is 1. 800. 263. 2841.
