March 2015 doc. : IEEE 802. 11 -15/0224 r 2 Technical Feasibility • The principle of scaling the IEEE 802. 11 PHY and MACs to higher throughput is well established by previous amendments, such as IEEE 802. 11 ac-2014 and IEEE 802. 11 ad-2012 • NG 60 builds on the broad knowledge base and system design experience of IEEE 802. 11 ad devices. – For example, NG 60 will consider MIMO and channel bonding that not only significantly improve throughput, but also allow reuse of technologies and testing being used in the previous amendments. March 2015 doc. : IEEE 802. 11 -15/0224 r 2 Distinct Identify and Compatibility • NG 60 is different from other IEEE 802 wireless standards/projects in that it is specific for 802. 11 WLANs and aims to provide data rates in excess of 20 gigabits per second for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint indoor and outdoor usages for license-exempt bands above 45 GHz. • NG 60 will ensure coexistence and backwards compatibility with IEEE 802. 11 ad, thus creating a solution compatible with existing IEEE 802. 11 deployments. • Coexistence with other systems for license-exempt bands above 45 GHz will be evaluated and documented in Coexistence Assurance document.
