Characteristics • • • Grey-ish brown Flippers Paddle tail Algae grow on skin No neck Can hold breath for 15 minutes Paddle tail ↓ Brown skin from algae→ ↑ Flippers No neck ↓
Habitat and Migration • Warm water (about 70 degrees) • Fresh and saltwater • Aquatic plants • Around 3 ft. deep • Migrate in winter • Deeper and warmer water ←This is my kind of place!
Predator or Prey • • • Herbivore No predators Most deaths from humans Sometimes eat fish out of nets Will eat acorns off hanging trees Eat plants at bottom, middle and top of water ↑ Yummy lettuce! My favorite!
Endangered • First endangered in 1973 • Every year, 37 manatees die from boats • Climate can kill manatees • Recent data suggests 4, 831 manatees are still alive • Manatees will become extinct without our help and protection! SAVE US!!! ↙↓↘ ↑ Please help our kind!
