ANATOMY
LARGE BOWEL � The main function of the large bowel (also known as the large intestine) is to transport waste out of the body and to absorb water from the waste before it leaves. The large bowel connects with the small bowel to the north and freedom (open air) to the south.
ANATOMY OF THE LARGE BOWEL The main components of the large bowel include the following: � cecum � appendix � colon � rectum � anal canal � anus
THE LARGE BOWEL The cecum is about six centimeters (cm) long and 7. 5 cm wide. The appendix is a narrow, dead-end tube about three-tofour inches long that hangs off of the cecum.
THE LARGE BOWEL The rectum is about eight inches long The colon is about six feet long and is the part of the body's digestive system
THE LARGE BOWEL The anal canal is situated between the rectum and anus The anus is the end of the line for the alimentary canal.
