Question #1 • Would you ever get in the car with a stranger? • Why or why not? • Discuss with a neighbor.
Question #2 • When you are talking with a friend on the phone, how can you tell it’s actually them, even though you can’t see them? • Discuss with a neighbor.
General Rule • Just like you would use common sense when a stranger approaches you, this lesson teaches you how to be wise when interacting with others online.

Summary, Staying Safe Online, Pt 3 • Be “Street Smart. ” Be cautious with new people you meet online. • Use your common sense when you go exploring. • Be skeptical of new people you meet online, even if they seem nice. • Don’t talk or share personal information with strangers. • Be mindful about how you represent yourself online.
Activity #1 • “You are now in cyberspace. As you wander and explore “the streets, ” different strangers will approach you and ask to connect. You will have to decide whether you would like to connect with that person and how you will reply. ” • 1. You will be in groups of 4 -5 students. • 2. One person from each group will pick a card and read it out loud. • 3. That representative will work with his/her group to decide how the group would respond to the situation.
Activity #2 • 1. You will be in new groups of 4 -5 students. • 2. Open your packet to the page “How much to share. ” • 3. You will construct a profile for a famous person you know. • For example – The President, a movie star, author, sports star • 4. Be creative!
Reflection • Why did you choose the items in your profile? • Why did you leave other things out?
Summary • 1. Shy away from revealing too much personal information in your profile. • 2. Any personal information you share can be used against you. • 3. Personal information you share can be forwarded to others.
