Malala Yousafzai An inspirational leader
Backround Malala was born in Pakistan to a Muslim family. Her father was a private school owner and school right activist at the time also. She first started out as a BBC blogger talking about the Taliban's influence on Pakistan and how they were blowing up girls schools as the ban for girls education took place. When the blogging ended, she took up an interview with New York Times and was later nominated for the National Youth Peace Prize which she won making her the first Pakistani to ever win it. As she became more recognized the Taliban took more interest and decided to assassinate her. On October 8, 2012 a taliban gunman came onto her bus looking for her and claimed he would shoot everyone on the bus if she didn’t show her face.
Important decisions made When faced with the previous situation, she stood up on the bus and was shot 3 times in the face. After that she was rushed to a hospital and into surgery where she was left in critical condition unconscious in a coma for 5 days. She made a great recovery and decided to write a book about her experience and the importance of female education.
Leadership examples I admire her for her courage and integrity it took for her to take a stand. When faced with a life threatening request she decided to take a stand rather put her life at risk then a whole bus full of kids. She also wrote a book about her experience when she could’ve just kept it on the down low and be safe. She took a risk with that book which I admire.
Motivation Her motivation was probably not wanting to have people have the same traumatic experience she had to face and have educational rights as a freedom not a life threatening choice.
Accomplishments as a leader She wrote her book and lead a speech after her attack at the UN where over 500 young education activist watched her. She won the nobel peace prize in 2014. At the age of 18 she opened a school for Syrian refugees in Lebanon offering education for girls 14 -18.
What type of leader I think she would be a democratic leader because she is promoting freedom amongst schools.
Why did I pick her? I picked Malala because I think it's vitally important for girls to be educated and I am a strong believer in what her beliefs are. She doesn’t directly impact me but people like her, allowed me to have education without the struggle.
