Step 1: Grieve ● This is not normal, and we’re not okay ● We cannot move forward until we acknowledge where we are ● Pain is easier to bear when shared ● We need to connect over hard times, not just good ones Dr. Liz Powell | Dr. Liz. Powell. com | Twitter @sexpospsych | Instagram @drlizpowell 2
Step 2: Prioritize ● We’re all operating on limited bandwidth ● You need to care for yourself first before you can care for others ● We all may have to be selective about who we focus on maintaining connections with ● Sit down and write out your list of priorities Dr. Liz Powell | Dr. Liz. Step 3: Make it easy ● Some of us (e. g. me) can forget who we want to be in touch with when we’re stressed ● Find tools to make this easier for you ○ Reminders/calendar events ○ Apps (e. g. Fabriq) ○ Systems/routines Dr. Liz Powell | Dr. Liz. Powell. com | Twitter @sexpospsych | Instagram @drlizpowell 4
Step 4: Personalize it ● Pay attention to love languages ○ How you speak may not be how they hear ● Talk about what you both most want and need ○ What aspects of your interactions are the most nourishing for each of you? ○ How do you balance heavy with playful? Step 5: Use technology ● Find ways to have deeper interactions when far away ○ Marco Polo ○ Phone/video sex ○ Netflix Party ○ Send each other meaningful items Dr. Liz Powell | Dr. Liz. Powell. com | Twitter @sexpospsych | Instagram @drlizpowell 6
Step 6: Over communicate ● If something isn’t working, talk about it early and often ● Ask for more! ○ If you only ask for absolute necessities, there’s no room for no ● Be real about boundaries and capacity Dr. Liz Powell | Dr. Liz. Powell. com | Twitter @sexpospsych | Instagram @drlizpowell 7
