1. Introduction Addressing gender gaps is a major development objective in the Philippines. “Gender statistics are the basis for analysis to assess differences in the situations of women and how their conditions are changing or not. ”* To respond to user needs, various initiatives are needed in the compilation and mainstreaming of gender statistics in the statistical system. *Developing Gender Statistics: A Practical Tool – World Bank Group.

2. 1 Legislations related to gender statistics a) Philippine Plan for Gender-Responsive Development, (PPGD) 1995 -2025 • a 30 -year perspective framework for pursuing full equality and development for women and men • The PPGD lays out development goals and strategies that will make gender equity innate in public programs and policies

2. 1 Legislations related to gender statistics b) Philippine Development Plan (PDP) • stipulates that gender and development shall be effectively integrated across sectors at the national and sub national planning processes. c) Creation of GAD focal points • tasked to catalyze, coordinate, provide direction to, and serve as technical adviser on gender and development efforts. 6

Specifically, for the PSA Role of PSS to ensure that gender concerns are integrated into the sectoral plans and programs of the Philippine Statistical Development Plan (PSDP) and that appropriate mechanisms are adopted to implement the gender-based statistical activities of the concerned agencies at both the central and sub-national levels

Philippine Statistical Development Program (PSDP) • a mechanism for setting the directions, thrusts and priorities of the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) for the medium term • one of the chapters in the PSDP ensures that gender concerns are integrated into the sectoral plans and programs of the agencies and that appropriate mechanisms are adopted to implement the gender-based statistical activities.
